H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection is a Family Resource Center and a Family Empowerment Center staffed by parents and family members of Kern County children with disabilities and/or special health care needs. Staff in the Family Resource Center provide families with parent to parent support, advocacy, training and assistance, resource coordination and information. Family Resource Center staff are also available for consultation and training for professionals who serve families with children who have special needs.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for people with special needs through a family resource center that symbolizes professionalism, dignity, compassion, and respect.

We share the vision to be instrumental in the development of a community that is more comfortable with, and accepting of, people with special needs.

April 25, 2012--Susan Graham is honored by Haven Counseling as "Advocate of the Year" at their Community Reception in honor of Child Abuse Awareness Month. Susan is a founding member of the organization and served on the board for many years. She became the Director in 1999. Susan was instrumental in getting the Family Empowerment grant about 10 years ago which allowed the agency to expand and hire additional staff. She is the parent of a young adult diagnosed with Rett Syndrome and the grandparent of a child with Autism. This honor goes to the staff of H.E.A.R.T.S.Connection who assist parents on a daily basis. The success of the organization is because of our dedicated staff members. Our organization is expanding in space and services in these difficult economic times.

Be a Hero...One Child at a Time!

H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection Family Resource Center provides emotional and educational support to parents of children who have or are at risk of having a disability.


Our caring staff help parents to understand their children's future which may include hospitalizations, physical therapy, speech therapy and special education.


For example...we lend books from our extensive resource library, facilitate support groups, provide assistance with Individualized Educational Plans (IEP), host sibling activities, and family fun days.


Each of us can "Be a HERO" today. These tough economic times effect non-profit organization at a time when families are struggling and need our assistance more than ever. H.E.A.R.T.S. Connection helps over 600 families each year. Some families need our services a few times a year while others need support on a monthly basis. Please help us continue to provide services to special needs children and their families.
