Trainings and Workshops

IEP trainings are held throughout the year in English and Spanish.  This 6 hour training will give you an overview of the Individualized Education Program and your educational rights and responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), special education law.

Connection invites you to attend a Special Needs Trust Educational Workshop on Wednesday, February 22 2006 at 6:30 p.m. at the Historic Kress Building, 3rd Floor, 1401 19th Street in Downtown Bakersfield. This complimentary, no-obligation Educational Workshop will provide you with the following valuable information that benefits people of all financial levels:

  • An explanation of the difference between a standard and a Special Needs Trust
  • What are the best methods to provide for your child’s future financial security, recreational activities and medical care without placing unrealistic burdens on other family members
  • How to make certain your child remains eligible for state and federal aid
  • Funding techniques for your Special Needs Trust, no matter what your financial level

Our guest presenters are Richard McBurnie, Attorney-at-law and Barry Rosenfeld, Chartered Life Underwriter & Chartered Financial Consultant. Richard has worked tirelessly on behalf of charitable causes in our community and Barry and his wife, Pat, have a son with special needs, and are keenly aware of the challenges parents face.

These are FREE trainings. Due to limited seating, you must call to reserve your spot. Bring your own snacks.  All of the materials necessary for this workshop will be provided to you.

IEP (Individualized Education Program) Clinics are held on the 3rd Thursday of most months.  An IEP clinic is a chance to sit down one on one with an advocate and ask specific questions about your child’s IEP and any problems you may be having.  To schedule an appointment you must have attended an IEP training within the past 12 months.
